Christmas Lights

Hi all!

Christmas is only a couple of nights away so here's another Christmas manicure! I didn't come up with this myself: I saw someone do this on MUA - I forgot your name, so sorry! Let me know if you read this, so I can give you the credits :) It's another easy, yet festive mani.

christmas lights nail polish manicure xmas tree nailswatchesChristmas lights! To do this, you'll only have to do a few simple steps. First, paint your nails in a green color. I chose to do Nfu Oh 056 over China Glaze Holly Jolly, because I wanted a flakey tree. You can also go with a creme (like Orly Enchanted Forest or RBL Recycle) of a shimmer or glassflecked polish (like Orly Meet Me Under The Mistletoe or China Glaze Emerald Sparkle).

What you want to do next, is get a black polish and a striper brush. I used China Glaze Ink, which is technically not even really black, but it would work just as good. I drew some lines over my nails. I didn't want the lines to match: I wanted them to look 'random', like you see them in the trees.

christmas lights nail polish manicure xmas tree nailswatchesWhen you've done that, it's time to take out your light bulb colors. I picked Barielle Glammed Out Garnet (red), China Glaze Lemon Fizz (yellow) and China Glaze Coconut Kiss (purple), but really, you can pick any color you'd like. I 'wiped' the brush of at the neck of the bottle, keeping just enough polish on the brush to create a bulb. I just put the brush on my nail to create a little oval drop and that's it! I think you could also use a dotting tool and pull it a little toward the light cord, so you get a somewhat teardrop shape to your colors.

I did that three times on all of my nails, so I had three different colors of lights. You can use as much colors as you'd like: I was aiming at a subtle yet colorful look, but I think I could have put another color there - like a pale lilac or something.

That's it! Easy, right? Even I could do it and my hands are nowhere near steady. Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas in a Bottle!

Hi all,

Today I have China Glaze's glitter wonder for you: Party Hearty! I wore this last week over OPI Smitten With Mittens and it looks SO festive! I love the glitters.

china glaze tis the season to be naughty and nice party hearty glitter nail polish christmas over opi smitten with mittens red nailswatchesOne coat of China Glaze Party Hearty over OPI Smitten with Mittens with one coat of FFWD topcoat - I was also wearing this as a mani. I love love love this! Aaaaah glitter!! It looks like Christmas threw up on my nails.. Or something. Haha! Party Hearty is a clear base, packed with big red hexagonal glitter, smaller green hex glitter and tiny gold glitters.

If you like glitter, this is a musthave if you ask me! Now if you'll excuse me.. I'm going to stare at the glitter awesomeness. Hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Christmas Balls!

Hi all,

Today I have another Christmas inspired manicure again for you: Christmas balls! It's really easy to do but it looks very festive on the nails.

I used my dotting tool to create the dots/ Christmas balls, but you can also use a toothpick if you don't have a dotting tool. The dots on the green make it look like balls in a Christmas tree! It's SO easy yet very festive on your nails.

I have a couple more Christmassy manicures ready to come up next week. They're all easy to do so everyone can do them :)

Because You Can't Have Too Many Pictures Of OPI Smitten With Mittens

Hi all,

In the tips that I asked you on the OPI Damone Roberts 1968 giveaway, there were a couple of people asking if I could do some more NOTD's. I'm really pretty boring nowadays with my NOTD's, because I find myself grabbing colors I've worn earlier. But anyway, I'm sharing my last NOTD from last week: OPI Smitten With Mittens. It's one of my all-time favorite polishes and I grab it so often that I'm seriously considering buying a backup for it. Anyway, here she is again!

opi smitten with mittens holiday collection 2009 nail polish nailswatchesOPI Smitten with Mittens, I believe this was two coats (I'm lazy). Can you guess what book I was reading while I was wearing this NOTD? Hehe! Nothing better than reading a nice book underneath a blanket with a pot of tea besides you!

opi smitten with mittens holiday collection 2009 nail polish nailswatchesAnd a picture to show the sparkliness of the polish. I absolutely love it. I think the Holiday Collection from last year was one of the best collections OPI ever did. Besides Smitten with Mittens, Merry Midnight is high up in my top-nameanumber.

I wish you all a very nice Thursday :)

It's The Christmas Season!

Hi all!

It's December, which means that it's almost Christmas! I don't know about you, but Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year. Last year, I didn't really do Christmas manicures, but I decided to do a couple this year, and this is the first one!

candycane christmas kerst xmas mani nail polish nailart imageplate m12 konad stamping nail polish nailswatchesTwo coats of H&M Love At First Sight as a base, stamped with China Glaze Ruby Pumps and imageplate M12. Imageplate M12 is the Christmas Konad stamping plate and I love it for this season. It holds a Santa, clocks, candycanes, 'Merry Christmas!" and more. We don't really have Candycanes much here, but I really like the look of them and they always make me think of Christmas..

candycane christmas kerst xmas mani nail polish nailart imageplate m12 konad stamping nail polish nailswatchesI put a coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust over it to make it sort of like a snow feel, and I think it turned out pretty nicely! Ruby Pumps is great for stamping, only the color is a bit less intense (which is only logical, since the polish is only one coat).

candycane christmas kerst xmas mani nail polish nailart imageplate m12 konad stamping nail polish nailswatchesI like this so much that I might even wear this for Christmas! I'm still undecided, so I guess anything can happen ;)

Are you doing Christmas manicures this month?

Deborah Lippmann: Ruby Red Slippers

Hi all,

Today I have a recent NOTD for you again! This isn't 'just' a polish, this is one of the most beautiful polishes I've ever seen and I'm not kidding when I say this! I layered it over one of my favorite reds, which gave this stunning look.

deborah lippmann ruby red slippers rrs glitter nail polish nailswatchesDeborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers, three coats over Chanel Gondola. You don't have to layer it: I wanted to try it over Gondola, but I liked it better when it was darker, so I added more coats. Ruby Red Slippers consists of red hexagonal glitter and fine red glitter in a sheer black base. It gives an amazing look and I loved it! You might need some topcoat though; it dried quite gritty with me and I ended up using two or three coats of topcoat (not pictured in the photo).

deborah lippmann ruby red slippers rrs glitter nail polish nailswatchesAnother picture, this time in lower lighting. It looks so glow-y, it's so pretty to look at! I love it.

The only downside was that the polish just fell off my thumb! I was standing in a store and when I reached out to get something from the shelves, I saw the nail polish was completely missing. I didn't even notice it coming off! That was a pretty big bummer. It might be due to the amount of coats in total, so I won't blame Ruby Red Slippers for it now. I'm going to try this again on its own soon :)

Do you own any Deborah Lippmann nailpolishes? If so, which one(s) and which one(s) is your favorite?

Essie Swing Velvet

Hi all,

How are you all doing? I've heard it's almost Thanksgiving, are you looking forward to it? Today I have a little gem for you that I discovered when I was shopping my stash and I totally forgot that it was so pretty!

essie swing velvet nail polish nailswatchesEssie Swing Velvet, three coats in daylight. I really don't know how to label this color. It looks like a vampy red in my picture, but it has a hint of purple too that doesn't show up in my pics. I love this color. It's darker in low light, but more red in full sunlight. I was surprised that I had almost forgotten about this baby.

Application was good. Essie polishes tend to be a little thinner than my liking, but this one applied very well. It took me three to get the color opaque but the color was so stunning that I didn't mind :)

I hope you all have a great day! Thanks for stopping by :)

Kiko 245

Hi all,

How are you doing today? Last night the last Harry Potter movie showed for the first time in The Netherlands! Have you been to the midnight showing? I'm going this morning and to be honest, I'm pretty excited hehe!

Anyway, for today I have Kiko 245 for you. I don't really like the whole number thing, I accidentally bought one double because they don't have names but only numbers. Ah well. Kiko sure as hell has some really pretty colors!

kiko 245 pearly dark ruby red red vampy nail polish shimmer nailswatchesKiko 245, two coats in daylight. Kiko 245 is a gorgeous deep and dark red shimmer. I would call this carmine or maybe even bordering on maroon, but Kiko calls this shade "pearly dark ruby red". I don't agree with that, since there's nothing pearly about this shade. It's gorgeous!

kiko 245 pearly dark ruby red red vampy nail polish shimmer nailswatchesKiko 245 in lower lighting. As you can see, the color darkens to more of a brown toned vampy.

Application was soft, sweet and easy. The formula was exactly how I like it - not too thick or too thin and it went on smoothly. The polish was opaque in two quick coats.

I really like this color! I can't believe I've had some of my Kiko's for so long without even trying them. I'm going to try to grab them more often nowadays! I paid a shocking € 1,90 for this bottle and it's great value for money.

Ciaté Silhouette

Hi all,

Today I have a polish for you that I wore as a notd recently. I saw this over at Michèle's blog and told her I wanted it, not realizing that I was already getting it.. Haha! Anyway, here is Ciaté Silhouette.

ciaté silhouette vampy red brown shimmer nail polish nailswatchesCiaté Silhouette, two coats with a coat of China Glaze FFWD topcoat. The polish doesn't need topcoat to be shiny! Silhouette is a gorgeous vampy red shimmer. It looks on the brown side in the bottle, but on the nail it's mostly a very vampy red.

The application on this one was great: the polish went on smoothly and was easily opaque in two coats.

You can buy Ciaté at their website for £ 9 per bottle. They are having a 25% off sale until 09/11/2010 (ends today!) when you use code ciate25mc.

Ruby Pumps and Smitten With Mittens Compared

Hi all,

A week or so ago, someone told me that OPI Smitten With Mittens looked like China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I thought it was way off, but when I pulled out both of my bottles, they seemed more similar than I thought. Time for a comparison to see how similar they really are.

comparison between opi smitten with mittens swm and china glaze ruby pumps red glitter jelly base nail polish nails nailswatches comparedRuby Pumps is on my pinkie and middle finger, Smitten With Mittens is on my ring and index finger. Both were two coats.

As you can see, Smitten With Mittens is a darker, deeper red than Ruby Pumps. The base of Ruby Pumps is lighter and less pigmented than the base of Smitten With Mittens. The glitter in the two of them is different too, even though that doesn't show up in my picture. The glitter in Ruby Pumps is red, while the glitter in Smitten With Mittens is red and gold. It's a slight difference, but hey, it's there.

There two are not dupes, but have the same feel to them. I prefer Smitten With Mittens because the application was better, but if you're not crazy about red and you own one of these, you probably won't need the other.

Barielle Pin Up

Hi all,

How are you all doing on this fine thursday? I hope you are doing well :) Today I have a pretty red Barielle for you; Pin Up from the All Lacquered Up Collection for Fall 2009.

barielle pin up all lacquered up collection 2009 fall red shimmer nail polish nailswatchesBarielle Pin Up, three coats in daylight. Pin Up is a pretty red with a hint of tomato; I wouldn't call this a pure tomato red though. It has golden and orangey red shimmer in it to give it an interesting finish.

As I've probably said before, I'm digging reds lately and this one is no exception. It looks really pretty, without being the trashy kind of red.

barielle pin up all lacquered up collection 2009 fall red shimmer nail polish nailswatchesApplication on this one was very good. The polish went on smoothly and was of pretty good structure, giving me no problems to apply it. Dryingtime was good as well.

The more Barielles I try, the more I dig them. I think the first two were a bit on the thick side (formulawise) because the polish had leaked a bit in transport, since all the Barielles I've tried ever since had a good formula. So if you like red and this one looks good to you, I'd suggest you give it a try :)

Barielle can be purchased at www.barielle.com and costs $8 a bottle.

Ruby Pumps Version 2

Hi all,

As you may have noticed, I started reswatching some of my polishes. I don't like my original pictures, either because my nail shape is butt ugly, the color is a bit off or I didn't capture the finish as good as possible. I'm giving some of my polishes a version 2, to show off their stuff. Today is another one: China Glaze Ruby Pumps. I hate my pictures of this one so much that I almost didn't want to link the older post, but here you go. Let's just say that I now know that my current nail shape fits me better :)

china glaze ruby pumps wizard of ooh ahz returns collection 2009 red jelly glitter nail polish nailswatchesChina Glaze Ruby Pumps, three coats in daylight. Ruby Pumps is a gorgeous bright red filled with tons of red glitter in a red base. In my previous post about Ruby Pumps, I wrote that I needed four coats to eliminate vnl. Hm. Maybe I have less to show now, because it was perfectly opaque in three coats!

china glaze ruby pumps wizard of ooh ahz returns collection 2009 red jelly glitter nail polish nailswatchesNothing has changed in the formula, so I'm still pleased! I prefer wider brushes nowadays so that's a little minus, but it's easy to work with so I needed minor cleanup - just because I'm trying to have a perfect gap, which is mission impossible lol.

What are your thoughts on Ruby Pumps?

Rumor Mill Filled With Joy

Hi all,

Today I have a konadicure for you that I did over Hard Candy Rumor Mill, which I showed you a couple of weeks ago. I love Konad - it's a great way to spice up your mani when you're wearing a polish and you want to spice it up for whatever reason. I decided to do one of my new favorite designs; a lacy stamp.

hard candy rumor mill plum jelly creme nail polish china glaze joy pink red khrome romantique chrome collection 2009 stamping konadicure konad nailart imageplate m71Hard Candy Rumor Mill stamped with China Glaze Joy and imageplate M71, taken in daylight. Joy really compliments the plum in Rumor Mill in my opinion. The lace design is clearly visible, but not really in your face and I like that!

hard candy rumor mill plum jelly creme nail polish china glaze joy pink red khrome romantique chrome collection 2009 stamping konadicure konad nailart imageplate m71This picture was taken in the shade, so this is what the konadicure looks like most of the time. Pretty, right? The vampy, almost black, plum color might be a bit too dramatic for some people, but the stamping lightens the mani up a bit.

I also took a closeup shot:

hard candy rumor mill plum jelly creme nail polish china glaze joy pink red khrome romantique chrome collection 2009 stamping konadicure konad nailart imageplate m71You can see how the colors compliment eachother.

I know I will keep doing these kind of konadicures, just because they're fun :) And of course, I really like the designs I use to stamp with :)

Plaid Nails

Hi all,

Today I have a little nailart for you. It's not something I came up with myself, but I saw this over at Nails by Asami and I decided to try it myself. Hers is prettier and looks way better than mine, but I still wanted to share my design with you since it reminds me of the plaid that my grandma had and used to tuck us in when we fell asleep on the couch. I know the colors clash and it's not as pretty as Asami's, but it's just a lovely memory of me.

My version of plaid nails. The plaid my grandmother had was made of a darker brown, but I like it anyway.

I took pics step by step, but for a full and good explanation of how to make plaid nails (as well as more than one color design), check out Nails by Asami.

wic by herome johannesburg taupe brown creme nail polish nailswatchesI started off with applying two coats of WIC By Herome Johannesburg. I let the polish dry completely before I went ahead with the next step.

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatchesI applied one coat of W.I.C. By Herome Antwerp, making it a fairly thick coat so it would be opaque. For other designs, I'd recommend making a thinner line, but the plaid in my mind had bigger stripes so I went with this. I let this completely dry before continuing.

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatches soho manhattan red creme liner striper nailartOn both sides of the stripe I made with Antwerp, I put a thin line with W.I.C. By Herome Soho Manhattan (a striper polish). The striper brush makes it easy to work with so making lines is easy, even for me (I have the opposite of a steady hand).

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatches soho manhattan red creme liner striper nailartTo finish it off, I added two more stripes with Soho Manhattan. I made these vertically so you would really get the plaid design. The lines don't have to be at the same place on every nail - I actually really like the variation in the placing of the lines.

So there you have your plaid nails! It's really easy and I think it makes a nice design on the nails so I will definately be trying this again with other colors.

Stamping On Orly Shine

Hi all!

Today I have a little Konadicure that I did a little while ago. Everyone always says that the Orly Foil FX collection is great for stamping, but I did it the other way around this time; I used Orly Shine as a base for this one.

I like the effect! The red really complements the silver base. It's not straight red, it has a strong hint of pink in it while stamping.

Nfu Oh 059 Over Chanel Gondola

Hi all!

A quicky today since I'm not feeling too well while I'm writing this (I'm sure I will be alright tomorrow when you read this). I wanted to show you my notd: Nfu Oh 059 over Chanel Gondola. I was wearing Gondola since thursday or friday, I'm not sure, but I thought she could do with a little twist. The idea just came to me while I was looking at my Nfu Oh's hehe.

chanel gondola red shimmer nfu oh 059 59 flakies red jelly sheer nail polish nailswatchesNfu Oh 059, one coat, over two coats of Chanel Gondola. I *love* Gondola. It was my first Chanel and it's just a great shade of red. Anyway, Nfu Oh 059 is a sheer red jelly base filled with flakies. It's not packed with them like 058, but there is still enough flakies going around! Please believe me that my pictures just do not do this justice *at all*. It's so much prettier irl, but it freaked out my camera so I had to settle with this.

chanel gondola red shimmer nfu oh 059 59 flakies red jelly sheer nail polish nailswatchesNfu Oh 059 makes Gondola a deeper, velvety shade of red and it also brings amazing depth to the polish. I can't stop staring at my nails!

Review: WIC By Herome Graffiti Nailart

Hi all!

Today I have a review of Graffiti Nailart Set from WIC By Herome for you. They started the Graffiti Nailart line just recently and it contains some great stuff for those of you that want to start stamping or doing nailart. Of course they also have some interesting things for the more experienced nailart'er around too!

WIC By Herome was very kind to send me this set for review. Warning: this is a very lengthy post and pic heavy!

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatchesBoth the starterskit as the extra nailplates come in a cute holographic box with a bow on it.

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatchesBecause it looks like getting presents, I could not restrain myself, so I had to post another pic of the boxes. Ain't that pretty? I love the boxes, it's like holo on a box!

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatchesThe boxes when they're opened. I got the starter kit ("Small Kit", € 12,50) and three extra sets of plates ("Tips", "Say It!" and "Fancy", € 7,50 per set). Since this is quite a large review by itself, I will focus mainly on the Small Kit.

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatches small kit starters setThe Small Kit contains a stamper, metallic scraper, a plate (B41) and a striper polish in Soho Manhattan. These are the basic things that you need when you want to start stamping. I'd recommend you do not use the metallic scraper, since metallic scrapers can leave scratches on your design. If the scratches are deep enough, the polish will flow in there and you won't be able to get a nice design out of your stamp. I'd love to see that Herome made a plastic scraper as well. In the meantime, you can use any old plastic card (an old credit card, but also collegepasses or membership cards) to scrape off the excess amount of polish.

So, let's see what we can do with this set! Since I was still wearing Nfu Oh 051 over RBL Bruised, I tried to use Soho Manhattan over this manicure, but the color wouldn't pop enough. I didn't want to take off the polish just yet, so I used China Glaze Millennium for the stamping this time.

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatches china glaze millennium nederlandse konadicure gestempeld nailart rbl bruised 051 51 nfu oh flakiesNfu Oh 051 over RBL Bruised, stamped with China Glaze Millennium and Graffiti Nailart plate B41. The images on the plates are just as good as the images on the Konad imageplates. This makes stamping your design just as easy as with Konad.

After that, I decided to play some with the striper polish: Soho Manhattan.

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatches soho manhattan flesje bottle kwastje brush striper nailartWIC By Herome Soho Manhattan, a bright red creme. The brush is thin so you can do freehand nailart with it. The cap holds pretty nicely so you can draw your lines pretty easily. I took this picture to show you how big the cap and the brush are.

Enough about the looks of this striper, let's see what it can do!

Soho Manhattan is well pigmented, so the stamp shows up really well. I have to say that when I stamped on top of my previous manicure with Nfu Oh 051, the polish didn't show up so well. I'd say this color pops on every light color, but it's a matter of trying to see on which darker colors it works.

But hey, it's a striper! I wanted to try some striped. I pretty much suck at making stripes, since I don't have a steady hand at all. I had a ton of stripers, but I got rid of them all because I couldn't work with them.

wic herome graffiti nailart nagellak nederland kopen konad fauxnad stempelen stamping konadicure world inspired colors nagellak nail polish review nailswatches stripes stamping konadicure nailartH&M Love At First Sight, stamped with China Glaze Adore and B41 and striped with Soho Manhattan. This striper works awesome! I can't believe I actually made some (reasonably) straight lines. It's really easy to work with! I'm thrilled with this one.

Overall I really like the collection that WIC By Herome put together for those who like nailart. I would love to see some full nail plates as well though, so we can cover up our nails completely. The plates work just the same as Konad, so if you think Konad is too expensive, this might be a great alternative.

I have to say I'm impressed with the striper polish. I don't know if all the striper polishes are of the same quality since I only have one, but if they are alike qualitywise, I'd recommend every Dutch nailart'er to get a few. They're easy to work with and have great pigmentation.

I have a little warning though when you will be using the Graffiti Nailart plates. Please be aware that the edges of the plates are really, really sharp. You won't be touching the edges that much, but be careful when removing the plastic that's on the plates. I already wrote a post about the sharp edges of the Bundle Monster plates, but these plates have the same sharp edges. If you haven't read my post about this, please check out The Tomato Test.

The WIC By Herome Graffiti Nailart line can be bought in the online webshop of Herome. You can also buy the nail art stripers seperately for € 7,50 a piece or € 12,50 for two stripers.

Flakie Galore - Nfu Oh 051 over RBL Bruised

Hi all!

Today I have the manicure that I wore on the day that I celebrated my birthday. I decided that it was a reason to get my beloved 051 out of her basket and put her on :)

nfu oh 051 51 flakies purple gold burgundy green duochrome nails nailpolish nailswatches flakes base rbl rescue beauty lounge bruised cremeNfu Oh 051, two coats over one coat of RBL Bruised. *whistles* oooh so pretty! 051 is a gorgeous purple based flakie polish that flashes blue, burgundy, green and gold. Not only the flakies change color, the polish itself does so too! I took this picture in daylight, but a little bit later I snapped this pic in the same lighting conditions:

nfu oh 051 51 flakies purple gold burgundy green duochrome nails nailpolish nailswatches flakes base rbl rescue beauty lounge bruised cremeWeird, right? It's awesome to look at. Most of the time, my nails looked like the first picture with a really strong golden flash and golden flakies in it, but sometimes it looked like this :D

Application was good! I used RBL Bruised as a base. I needed one coat to get an even base, though it was not completely opaque. I didn't need opacity since I was layering 051 on top.. The brush of Nfu Oh works pretty well for me. I had no issues with the polish whatsoever so I was a happy birthday gal!

What do you think of 051? Worth the hype? I snatched it at the end of last year, when 051 wasn't easy to come by and I'm ever so glad I did.

Essie After Sex

Hi all!

Have you ever bought a polish mostly for the name alone? Well, I have to admit that I had to have this one just for the name. Ain't that silly? I also have a polish with my name.. And I don't even like the color! Anyway, I'm drifting off. I actually like the color of this one so it didn't even turn out that bad :)

It's not so strong, so you'll probably only see it when the light hits the nail. I think it's a pretty red, but nothing unique to be honest :)

Application was alright. Essie's brush is quite small and I don't really like working with it. The formula on this one was alright; it was a bit streaky at first but it all evened out in three coats.

It's a pretty color, but it was a bit boring to me, so I pulled out some konad and got stamping.

I used a silver strass stone from dollarnailart on every nail to bling up the design. Although I stamped a bit wonky, I like how this turned out! Can you believe it was the first time using this design, after buying the complete plate for this design only? I've had this plate for months!

That do you think of After Sex? Did you ever buy a polish because of the name? Tell me all about it!
