Lacey nails!

Hi all,

Last week, I showed you Barielle Get Mauve-ing and today I have the konadicure that I did over it afterwards. I like these colors as a background for konads like this!

Because Get Mauve-ing is such a soothing color, I really liked the lacey stamping on it. I like those more on the dusty, muted looking polishes somehow.

Barielle Get Mauve-ing

Hi all,

It's weekend! Let's hope the weather is being nice so we can go outside.. Yesterday was a sad rainy day. I have one of the Barielles for you that I got at the sale recently!

barielle get mauve-ing mauve taupe creme nail polish nailswatchesBarielle Get Mauve-ing, two coats in indirect sunlight. Get Mauve-ing is a gorgeous mauve taupe creme that I found to be very nice in combination with my skintone.

I think I could have done one coat and be fine with it, but I did two out of habit.

barielle get mauve-ing mauve taupe creme nail polish nailswatchesThis was the third Barielle bottle that I got that leaked during transport. The neck of the bottle had dried polish over it, sticking up and breaking off when I opened the bottle. The brush was wonky, with outstanding hairs and hairs that were longer than the rest of the hairs in the brush. Because the bottle leaked polish in transport, the polish got thicker and was really thick when I applied it.

I thought it was bad luck when two of my bottles leaked the first time (Berry Blue and A Bouquet For Ava), but now I'm concerned the caps aren't being put on tightly enough. I hope I just had bad luck and my other bottles will be fine.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

OPI You Don't Know Jacques

Hi all,

A short post today since I'm having computer troubles and my laptop doesn't allow me to have more than one window open - which is really frustrating. I hope I can fix it tomorrow, I didn't have luck today. Ah well. Today I have a long time lemming for you that I finally picked up in August I believe.

opi you don't know jacques ydkj taupe creme nail polish nailswatchesOPI You Don't Know Jacques, three coats in daylight. You Don't Know Jacques is a taupe creme. It's loved by many, but I don't like it. Let me tell you why: the color is lighter than I thought it would be. I like 'darker' taupes like Catrice Lost In Mud and this one is lighter.. According to the swatches I've seen before, it should be darker than what I own.

Second: the formula was horrible. It was extremely watery at some points and it contained some lumps (I don't know a better word to say this, sorry), making it very hard for me to apply. Although the formula was mostly on the (really) thin side, the drying time wasn't quick so of course I dented the polish before I could snap a pic.

No, this one's not for me. How much I hate it to post something like this post, I want to get my opinion on this one out. Maybe I got an off bottle, who knows. I just know that I will probably not be grabbing this in the future to polish my nails with.

Chanel Paradoxal

Hi all,

It's been a little while since this baby was released and caused a true frenzy in the nailpolish community and it's certainly one of the shades that I love a lot. I find myself wearing this one quite often, so I would say it's worth every penny ;)

chanel paradoxal fall 2010 nail polish purple taupe shimmer limited edition nailswatchesChanel Paradoxal, two coats in daylight. Paradoxal is a gorgeous taupe with a very strong purple hue (or purple-ish taupe) packed with hidden shimmer that only shows up in sunlight or under artificial lighting. The shimmer is mostly purple and pink, but you can also discover some blue in there if I'm not mistaken. This shade is absolutely gorgeous!

chanel paradoxal fall 2010 nail polish purple taupe shimmer limited edition nailswatchesThe application was flawless and the formula was superb. The first time I used it, I was honestly impressed with the formula. I have some more Chanels and lets just say that some don't share the same kind of formula.

I love this shade for fall, but I also wore it during the summer so I would say it's good for every season (not that I pay attention to seasonal colors, but okay). I recently saw some bottles at the local Douglas and Ici Paris XL so if you want it, you can still grab it when you're in The Netherlands.

There is a deadon dupe though: BarryM Dusky Mauve. Michèle wore it recently when I was wearing Paradoxal and you couldn't possibly see the difference between them!

Plaid Nails

Hi all,

Today I have a little nailart for you. It's not something I came up with myself, but I saw this over at Nails by Asami and I decided to try it myself. Hers is prettier and looks way better than mine, but I still wanted to share my design with you since it reminds me of the plaid that my grandma had and used to tuck us in when we fell asleep on the couch. I know the colors clash and it's not as pretty as Asami's, but it's just a lovely memory of me.

My version of plaid nails. The plaid my grandmother had was made of a darker brown, but I like it anyway.

I took pics step by step, but for a full and good explanation of how to make plaid nails (as well as more than one color design), check out Nails by Asami.

wic by herome johannesburg taupe brown creme nail polish nailswatchesI started off with applying two coats of WIC By Herome Johannesburg. I let the polish dry completely before I went ahead with the next step.

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatchesI applied one coat of W.I.C. By Herome Antwerp, making it a fairly thick coat so it would be opaque. For other designs, I'd recommend making a thinner line, but the plaid in my mind had bigger stripes so I went with this. I let this completely dry before continuing.

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatches soho manhattan red creme liner striper nailartOn both sides of the stripe I made with Antwerp, I put a thin line with W.I.C. By Herome Soho Manhattan (a striper polish). The striper brush makes it easy to work with so making lines is easy, even for me (I have the opposite of a steady hand).

wic by herome johannesburg antwerp brown sandy taupe shimmer creme nail polish nailswatches soho manhattan red creme liner striper nailartTo finish it off, I added two more stripes with Soho Manhattan. I made these vertically so you would really get the plaid design. The lines don't have to be at the same place on every nail - I actually really like the variation in the placing of the lines.

So there you have your plaid nails! It's really easy and I think it makes a nice design on the nails so I will definately be trying this again with other colors.

A product in this post was sent to me by the manufacturer or their PR company for consideration. For more information, please read my disclaimer.

WIC By Herome Johannesburg

Hi all!

Just a quicky today.. I was so busy cleaning, tidying and reorganizing yesterday, that I didn't have time to do a big post today *sorry!*. I did come up with an idea for the blog, so I'll see how I can implement this! I hope this will help y'all, but you'll have to wait a bit to see it. So, on to todays polish. I got this in a swap package ("De Swapdoos") a couple of months ago and I think this is one of my favorite taupes.

wic world inspired colors taupe creme johannesburg heromeWIC By Herome Johannesburg, two coats in daylight. Johannesburg is a pretty medium taupe creme. There's not too much going on and I have to say, I like it! To me, it's a sophisticated polish which gives my nails a chic look.

Application was good. The polish is a bit on the thick side, but applying it was easy and the polish dried quickly.

So tell me, what's your favorite taupe?

PS: Don't forget to send in your Harry Potter nailart design! If you haven't heard about it, click *here* to read the details.

Chanel Particulière

Hi all!

How are you all doing? Today I have a polish for you that only recently became a part of the permanent collection of Chanel. It's a polish that was on eBay for outrageous amounts and sellers were actually selling them! I know there are supposed to be like a gazillion dupes for this, but when I found out I got a discount of over € 5 at the airport, I went for it and gave in.

chanel particuliere taupe creme nailpolish permanent collection nailswatcheschanel particuliere taupe creme nailpolish permanent collection nailswatchesChanel Particulière, two coats in indirect daylight. Particulière is a taupe creme that leans a bit to the bleek taupe side, making it look a little faded. Taupe, how I love thee.. Anyway, I really like the color, although I would have liked it to be a little darker.

Application was good! I was a bit surprised since I didn't have good experiences with the application of Nouvelle Vague (being bumpy and streaky) and Gondola (having lumps in the polish itself) so this was a nice surprise. Particulière is almost a onecoater; if you're not such a perfectionist as I am, you could do with one coat.

I played around with my dotting tool a bit to give it a more summery look:

chanel particuliere taupe creme nailpolish permanent collection nailswatchesChanel Particulière with dots made with Orly Gumdrop. I like the contrast! It makes it look fun :)

This is all for today dear reader! I hope you enjoyed! What do you think of Particulière? Worth the hype?

Thanks for stopping by :)

PS: I was working on sorting the giveaway entries but I didn't have enough time to sort them all, so I will finish sorting them when I get back. I'm sorry it's taking this long!

Comparison Wednesday

Hi all!

I've had a couple of requests for comparisons and I found some polishes in my stash that were a lot alike, so Comparison Wednesday it is! I apologize for the variety in backgrounds, but some colors wouldn't be accurate on a white background and some didn't like the black background. I did the best I could with it since lighting wasn't really coorperating either..

Anyway, I have no less than four comparisons for you today! Here's a little overview.

comparison rbl no more war nmw pieces it's a camouflage creme essie mink muffs taupe orly prince charming nailswatches shimmer nfu oh 117 color club electronica purple htf hard to find opi dating a royal medium blue jelly creme essie mesmerize dirty sexy money dsm misa slate green catrice i sea you dupes comp dupe swatch nailwheel nailswatchesSome colors are way darker irl, but again, that's due to the background..

misa dirty sexy money dsm catrice i sea you slate green comparison creme hard to find htf nailswatchesLeft Misa Dirty Sexy Money, right Catrice I Sea You! The colors are a little too dark, but you can see that they're pretty much identical. Dirty Sexy Money is a tad bit more blue, but I don't think you could tell these apart when I wore them together as a mani.

color club electronica nfu oh 117 purple shimmer dupe comparison nailswatchesLeft Color Club Electronica, right Nfu Oh 117. Both are deep purples with red and blue shimmer particles, but Electronica is a bit darker so I'd say these are no dupes of eachother. They are siblings though, so if you own one of these two, you probably won't need the other.

essie mesmerize opi dating a royal dar blue jelly nailswatches comparison dupe dupesLeft OPI Dating A Royal and Essie Mesmerize on the right. I would call both of them medium blues, but they are no dupes. I've read somewhere that these are deadon dupes, but they're obviously not. Dating A Royal is more intense, colorwise, than Mesmerize. The latter is a bit brighter. No, these are not dupes. If you're not really into blues, you probably won't need both though.

essie mink muffs orly prince charming taupe comparison dupe dupes nailswatches brown cremes cremeThis one is not as faded and light as my picture let's it appear, but I couldn't get a proper shot. I will try again later this week and add a better picture when I managed to take a more accurate picture.. Anyway, left is Orly Prince Charming and right is Essie Mink Muffs. Both are taup-ey cremes, but Mink Muffs is more pigmented and is warmer than Prince Charming. Mink Muffs and Prince Charming are not dupes of eachother.

rbl rescue beauty lounge no more war nmw army green pieces it's a camouflage dupe dupes comparison nailswatchesLeft RBL No More War, right Pieces It's a Camouflage. They are both in the army green category, but that's all they have alike. No More War is way darker and greener than It's a Camouflage so no dupes here either.

I hope this was helpful :) Again, if you have suggestions for a comparison, please let me know and I'll see if I can do one for you!

Pieces Nail Polish

Hi all,

Last sunday, Michèle and I stumbled upon some unknown pretties; nail polish from Pieces. Pieces is a store that sells mostly accessories and clothing, but they now sell nail polish as well. I picked up three colors; Cookie Dough, Lavender Haze and It's Camouflage.

pieces nail polish nailpolish green taupe brown lavender purple pink it's camouflage lavender haze cookie dough
The pretties! Cookie Dough, Lavender Haze, It's Camouflage

pieces nail polish green nailpolish it's camouflagePieces It's Camouflage, three coats in indirect sunlight. I tried to capture the colors as accurate as possile, so there's some variety in the poses lol. It's Camouflage is a dusty, putty green creme. The name says it all; it's a perfect camouflage color. Application was watery with the first coat. I thought I wouldn't be able to make it opaque in a couple of coats, but I had no visible nail line in three coats. Drying time is good and the polish is shiny like hell! No topcoat needed.

pieces taupe brown creme cookie doughPieces Cookie Dough, one coat in indirect daylight. Yes, this is a onecoater!! Yay!! Pigmentation in this one is awesome. Cookie Dough is a dark taupe, or dusty brown creme. These kind of colors look very classy to me and it's almost impossible for me to not like these shades. Application is good. The polish shines a little less than It's Camouflage, so you could apply topcoat for extra shine. Drying time was great.

pieces lavender haze nail polish nailpolish pink purple lilacPieces Lavender Haze, three coats in daylight. Lavender Haze is, as the name states, a lavender colored creme. It's very light and almost pink in some lights, but mostly it's a true lavender. I really like this color. Somehow it makes my hands look really tanned (= big plus). The structure was a bit watery at first, but like It's Camouflage, all evened out and Lavender Haze was opaque in three coats. Since this is a pastel, it tends to be a little streaky so be careful when you apply this one.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the polishes! The quality is just as good or maybe even better than other, more expensive brands of nail polish and they have some interesting colors. I saw a great red as well, that might be a RBL Banging dupe :). The only little downside I have is the square cap that makes it a little less comfortable to apply the polish than application with a round cap. But other than that, I'm really digging these.

Oh and a little tip; the polish looks a lot darker on the nail than they do in the bottle! So don't let this scare you when you want to pick these up.

I bought them in a set of three for € 6,95 at the Pieces store at the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam. You can pick the three colors yourself. I believe they are € 2,50 or € 3 a piece when you buy them seperately, but please don't quote me on that ;)

What do you think of these Pieces polishes?

Catrice Lost in Mud

Hi all!

A very quick post today, I'm off to bed.. Have a long (and fun!) day planned for tomorrow :) I know this isn't the best picture (it's rather crappy, to be honest), but this polish had an insane reflection in it and I just saw my own face.. Grr! I will add a better pic when I take one!

Catrice Lost In Mud, three coats in daylight. Lost in Mud is a taupe colored creme that reminds me of OPI You Don't Know Jacques, but I don't own YDKJ so I can't compare the two.. Anyway, application was fine after adding around 10 drops of thinner, since the polish is a bit on the thick side. I really like this color so I think I won't be having trouble to wear it again to take better pics :)

I wish you all a lovely friday!

Thanks for stopping by!

Playdate Pics! And OPI Over The Taupe

Hi all!

If you're following me on Twitter, you probably know that it was playdate time yesterday! I met up with Michèle from Lacquerized, Karin from Romika's Nails, Michelle from The Lacquer Files and Natasja. We all brought a ton of polishes (though this wasn't nearly everything we own!) and were dazed with the amount of polish on the table. This is what a playdate with five lacquer ladies looks like:

And from a different angle:

Michèle and Karin actually had their polishes in their Helmers, so they are not even all visible in these pics! Woah! Can you imagine us just staring at all the bottles, not knowing which polish to pick?

We all picked a polish to paint our nails with and since this is my nail blog, what would this post be without a pic of our hands and nails?

Clockwise, starting from the top: Michèle - wearing purple H&M Hello Kitty with Sally Hansen Garnet Lapis, Karin - wearing Milani Hi-Tech, Michelle - wearing Hard Candy Mr Wrong with Hard Candy Breakup on top, Natasja - wearing Orly Cashmere Cardigan and me - wearing OPI Over the Taupe.

I'm wearing OPI Over the Taupe as a NOTD (which I borrowed from Michelle - thanks dearie!! <3 ), but I spiced it up a little with some flowery stickers. I actually have some weird kind of bubbeling in my polish, not regular bubbles but very teeny tiny wobbly parts that look like they lay under the polish. Michèle told me she has the same thing. I have no clue what caused this bubbeling.. Anyway, here are some pics of today's manicure!

OPI Over the Taupe, three coats with one coat of Nubar Diamont and flowery stickers. Over the Taupe is a gorgeous taupe creme. I really like this color! I took advantage of all the bottles on the table and it's no dupe of Eyeko's Taupe Polish, Catrice Lost in Mud or Catrice From Dusk To Dawn. Application was good. The polish was a little watery at first, but it all went well in the end.

A little closeup of my ring finger:

It's just the accent to make the color pop! I really like these stickers. I got them as a freebie with an order at Veelnagels/Veelsieraden, a Dutch etailer.

Dear Michèle, Karin, Michelle and Natasja; I had a great time yesterday and I hope you did too! I'm looking forward to the next playdate (Michèle, hurry up with your date picker! ;) )

Thanks for stopping by!

Orly Prince Charming

Vandaag heb ik voor het eerst Prince Charming uit de Once Upon a Time collectie van Fall 2009. Op Poison Apple na, heb ik alle kleuren uit deze collectie en tot nu toe bevallen ze allemaal zeer goed!

Today I'm wearing Prince Charming of the Orly Once Upon a Time Collection for Fall 2009 for the first time.

Orly Prince Charming brown taupe nail polish creme nailswatches once upon a time fall 2009

Twee laagjes, zonder topcoat. Waarschijnlijk is deze lak dekkend in een laagje als je genoeg lak gebruikt voor de eerste laag.
This is two layers, no topcoat. This one is probably opaque in one coat, but I did two anyway.

De kleur is lichter dan ik verwacht had, maar ik vind het wel gaaf. Het doet me denken aan chocomel :D Ik vind het een erg mooie creme en denk dat ik deze zeker nog vaker uit de kast zal trekken :)

The color is a bit lighter then I expected, but I like it! It kinda reminds me of hot chocolat, although without cream. It's a really nice creme polish and I think I will be using this one more in the future.

Thanks for stopping by!
